Is the book better than the screen adaptation?

After reading a book,  you want to watch a movie to compare. Or vice versa - read the original, if you are impressed by something, having watched the adaptation.

Better yet, you'll be able to feel all the emotions of the characters, diving headfirst into the original story! And there it will be clear who wins - the printed book or its visual embodiment! In any case, this cultural journey and its analysis will be a fascinating experience for you. That's why we're opening our August "Worth Reading" series, Screen Adapted Pages in the Original.

What could be more honest and truthful than a book for teens written by a teenager? Today we're introducing adapted work that's definitely worth reading in the original and then watching. This is a platinum edition of the book "Outsiders" by Susan Eloise Hinton, donated to the library of Sumy State University by the Regional English Language Office of the U.S. Embassy.

Susan Hinton's novel has become a cult not only in her homeland, the United States, but far beyond. Believe it or not, this bestseller was banned in the United States for some time. Susan wrote it at the age of 15 about her peers and for her peers. She wrote about her life, the lives of her friends and "enemies," her relationships with adults, social conflicts, parent-child issues, the challenges of growing up - everything most teenagers go through. Yes, and almost all adults at one time, too, confronted the world and tested its limits.

Events take place in the 1960s, but are relevant today. A small town, a long-standing war between two youth gangs: the "greasers" from poor families and the "golden youth" from the "Socs" gang. As always, the love of a "good" girl and a "bad" boy - where else could it be? And, as always, there are problems because of this. The "Socs" decide to teach a lesson to the "boys" who have wandered into someone else's territory. A couple of friends get mixed up in a showdown and, trying to defend themselves, kill one of the assailants. The friends have no choice but to flee. What happened next, read in the book "The Outsiders" and watch on screens.
