Sumy State University has access to the Corpus of Contemporary American English resource until March 29, 2025.

Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) – is a corpus of contemporary American English that contains over one billion words and about 500,000 texts. The resource was created by Mark Davis, professor of corpus linguistics at Brigham Young University.

Advantages of the resource:

  • convenient quick search
  • texts relevant for today 
  • a large assortment of text genres: spoken, artistic, academic texts, popular magazines, newspapers, television and movie subtitles, blogs and other web pages
  • a large amount of information for each word
  • ability to filter and compare

The Corpus of Contemporary American English includes seventeen separate corpora.

The resource will be helpful for scientists, teachers, and students.

Access conditions: from the university's local network.

How to access:

  1. Follow the link and click My account – Register.
  2. Register in the database by filling in all the required fields.
  3. After registration, a letter will be sent to the specified e-mail address. Follow the link to verify your account.
  4. In your profile settings, select the country and "Sumy State University."
  5. After entering any building, make sure you choose your university. 

Necessary: You cannot join a university license unless you first select it in the settings. To check the correctness of the selection, follow the link. The following should be displayed in green: You are a member of the academic license for [Sumy State University ], which expires in [...] days. Additionally, the account icon on the search page will turn green.
