The Museum of Historical and Local Lore Studies of the SumDU was founded in 2008 on the initiative of the candidate of philological sciences V.B. Zvagelsky. The materials of the museum were collected by SumDU scientists and students during expeditions and field researches. The collection of the museum consists of more than one thousand exhibits, including archeology, ethnography, illustrations, photo materials, which chronologically cover the period from the late Paleolithic to the present. Of particular value are rare materials of archaeological excavations of the monuments of the Kievan Rus, ethnographic artifacts of the nineteenth century and documents of the Great Patriotic War times.
The exposition of the museum consists of the following collections:

Annually, the museum is visited by a large number of visitors, including students, teachers, schoolchildren of the city and regional schools, delegations and guests from the University of Ukraine and the world.
